FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT: PART 7

At the beginning of this study we looked at the Fruit of the Spirit. We gained a better understanding of what it means to have this fruit and where it comes from. You were able to see that all these different traits or attributes God gives us are all connected and bond together. It is just not possible to truly have one without the other. It’s like making biscuits, homemade biscuits not the caned one. You have several ingredients. These ingredients must be added to the mix at a certain time in order for the dough to rise. If you substitute or take away an ingredient your biscuits are not going to rise as they should. The fruit of the Spirit that we receive from God is the same. In order for our lives to rise I God we must have all the fruit that God gives us. When we ball up the fruit or you could say ball up the dough it represents a life of righteousness. Now, what is righteousness? I’m glad that you asked.

Ok, so what is righteousness? Going back to the trusty Webster’s Dictionary; it says that righteousness is an act in accord with divine or moral law: free from guilt and sin. You are morally right or justifiable. The slang for righteousness is genuine and excellent. Isn’t that wonderful that when we pursue a righteous life in Christ we are made genuine and more excellent? Righteous living is acceptable to God.

Christ is our example of being righteous. When you are wondering how to live your life always look toward Christ not man. I know that I have sad this before but you are to compare yourself to Him because He never makes a mistake or does anything wrong.

Match the scripture to the attribute of Christ.

Verse Example
Job 36:3 A. But the LORD shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment. And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness.
Psalm 9:8 B. Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice. And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.
Psalm 17:15 C. His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed. Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
Psalm 50:5-6 D. He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour.
Psalm 111:3 E. His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
Psalm 112:2-3 F. In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Psalm 112:9 G. I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.
Jeremiah 23:6 H. As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

In Jeremiah 33:15 who is the Branch of righteousness? Remember back in elementary school that you were taught to capitalized the first letter of a proper noun. In this verse Branch is a proper noun, who is the Branch.

How does God tell us to live in righteousness?

Psalm 15:2 He that walketh ___________, and worketh ___________, and speaketh the ______ in his heart.

Psalm 23:3 He restoreth my soul: he ________ me in the paths of __________ for his name’s sake.

Psalm 40:9-10 I have preached__________ in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest. I have not hid thy _____________ within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.

Jeremiah 51:10 The LORD hath brought forth our _________: come, and let us declare in Zion the work of the LORD our God.

Hosea 10:12 Sow to yourselves in __________, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain _____________ upon you.

Matthew 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for ___________ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Philippians 1:10-11 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; Being filled with the fruits of ______________, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

Hebrews 12:11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of ___________ unto them which are exercised thereby.

James 3:18 And the fruit of _____________ is sown in peace of them that make peace.

Use these verses to fill in the blanks.

Job 27:6 My _________ I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach me so long as I live.

Job 29:14 I put on ____________, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.

Job 35:2 Thinkest thou this to be _______, that thou saidst, My __________ is more than God’s?

What did you learn from these verses?

In Genesis 30:33; who do we answer to in end? Who is our ultimate judge? What do you think Jacob is trying to say in this verse? Why would he make that statement?

In Psalm 85, the psalmist is speaking of God’s mercy on His people so what is so important about righteousness and peace. You can see in the later verse how it speaks of the Fruit of the Spirit and how they are connected. These are all a part of God’s wonders that He performs. How is the psalmist describing righteousness?

Use Proverbs 11 and 12 to compare and contrast the righteous and the wicked in the chart below.

  Differences Similarities

Righteous

Wicked

In Proverbs 16:8, what is the writer trying to say? How can being righteous better than money? My oldest son is graduating from High School. He has been applying for scholarships and I told him that he is going to have to spruce up his applications by talking a lot about himself. He does not like to talk about himself at all; he wants no attention brought to him. He knows some kids that have even lied on their application have gotten the scholarship. He told me that he didn’t want to do that and he is right. He was raised to have integrity and stand for what is right. He told us that would provide him the money he needs for school. Now, this is faith from a young man that has not been saved. He has faith and is doing what is right so he is trying to live a righteous life that God would be proud of. He’s just lacking one thing and that is God in his heart. I have faith that one day God will tough him by His grace.

We are not going to fully embrace the Fruit of the Spirit until Christ returns, but we should always give all we are to each fruit and empower what God hands us. Remember, that the fruit are bond together. They are attributes of the saved and what are our rewards. Read Matthew 5:3-12 list and describe each fruit.

Living a righteous life is acceptable God. In Matthew 3:13-17 Jesus is telling John to baptize Him and John forbaded it. But John has a ministry to continue in and it is righteous what he is doing. Christ tells his that he must baptize Him to fulfill the righteousness. John’s ministry was given a stamp of approval by Christ. We are to seek righteousness and be blessed. In Zephaniah 2:3, what will happen if you seek righteousness and meekness?

Righteousness comes after you’ve been saved by His grace. Romans 10:6-11 says;

But the _____________ which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above🙂 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy _______: that is, the word of______, which we preach; That if thou shalt _________ with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man ________ unto _______; and with the mouth __________ is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever _______ on him shall not be ashamed.

1 Corinthians 1:30 what comes from God?

2 Corinthians 5:21, what did Christ do for you?

1John 2:29, where does righteousness come from? How do we know this?

Application: Ask God today to fill you with His fruit so that you can live a more godly and righteous life. It’s not easy or as they say a bed of roses but it is always rewarding because we are his children.

FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT:PART 6

The next fruit of the Spirit is faithfulness. How are your faithful or are you even faithful? What are you faithful to? When others see you or think of you do they see a picture of faithfulness? This week we had a revival meeting at our church. My family and I are always at the meetings that are church hosts. Unfortunately, this particular meeting we missed two days. One day was just trying to get everyone from where they were to church but it didn’t work the way we wanted it too and the other was our oldest sons Senior Honors night. When we came to the last night of the meeting everyone said that they missed us and that it didn’t seem right to being having a meeting with us not there. One gentleman had said that if we hadn’t shown up tonight that he was calling to make sure we were alright. We aren’t perfect by any means but we do want to be faithful to our church and God. We feel that that is where we should be to support the church and the preacher. We should be in church every time the doors open if possible. We are to pray and be examples to others that aren’t faithful. Why is it so hard for us to be faithful to God when He is always faithful to us?

Christ is faithful the song Great is Thy Faithfulness describes His faithfulness and what He does for us. If Christ is so faithful to us then why is it too much to ask that we be faithful to Him/ We our faithful to our children’s sport and other activities that they are in.

Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;

There is no shadow of turning with Thee;

Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;

As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!

Morning by morning new mercies I see.

All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;

Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,

Sun, moon and stars in their courses above

Join with all nature in manifold witness

To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth

Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;

Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,

Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Unfaithful

In 2 Timothy 2:13 who is he? Who abides faithful? You will need to references Roman 3: 1-4.

In Matthew 25:14-30 compare these faithful and unfaithful servants.

Faithful Unfaithful

What are talents supposed to represent in our lives? How are we to offer more talents to the Lord when we stand before Him on judgement day? Why is it so important to be faithful? 1 Corinthians 4:2

Who do you think is the master or lord in these verses? Write a few sentences comparing your life to the faithful servant.

Read 1 Corinthians 4:7, Ephesians 6:21, Colossians 1:7 & 4:7. What do all these men have in common?

Luke 16:10 Can you ever be too faithful where you can slack off?

Luke 19:17 what is being asked here?

Application: Always ask God to help you to be more faithful. You cannot do it without Him. You will always fail. You need faith, a strong foundation of faith to be faithful. Only compare yourself to Christ. That is what Paul keeps reminding us to do. When we compare ourselves to others we can always find someone that we are better than. We are pretty faithful at that aren’t we? Put forth that extra effort with God’s help to be more faithful to your church and Him.

FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT: PART 4

In order for God to be so kind and have great peace towards us He must love us. He loves all people but not he behaviors we act upon. That is why it is so important for us to show love towards others. Let us look at how God show His love to us and how we are supposed to love other around us.

Put on X in the column of which love the verse is talking about

Verse God’s Love Our love
John 3:16
Ephesians 3:19
1 John 2:7-11
1 John3:1
1 John 2:7-11
1 John 4:9-11
2 John 1:5-6

What happens if we do not show love? Are you of God if you love the world? Think about this really hard. I’m not asking should you love but I’m asking should you love the things and actions of this world?

1 John 3:19 what are we to love in?

1 John 4:7-8 Who are we of if we love? What if we loveth not?

1 John 4:9-13 In this was manifested the ________ of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is ______, not that we _____ God, but that he ______ us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so ______ us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we ______ one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

Jude 4:19 What are we to keep ourselves in?

Showing love is connected to being truthful. People need to be able to trust you so you can bond with them and be able to share your love with them. How can a liar be trusted and show love?

Verse Truth Liar
1 John 1:6-8
1 John 2:21-22
2 John 2:4

John 8:44 He is the father of lies; who it is? What does the devil speak?

Who lies and walks in darkness?

Have you ever told a lie? If you answered no to this questions rethink your answer. Everybody has lied at some point in their lives. I know that I don’t feel very good after I had told even a little white lie. If God is living in us we are convicted of our behaviors when they are against God. I do not like the feeling that I get when I have done something I am not supposed to do. I usually go back and apologize and that is even worse. Just be truthful from the beginning. God begins our relationship with Him with truth; the devil begins his with a lie, so which one is easier to trust?

2 John 1:4 what should we walk in?

Can we fellowship with God and walk in darkness? Yes or No

1 John 5:20, who is true and truthful? Who lies? What does he deny?

Application: Your today needs to be to ask God to allow you to see when you are not being truthful. Sometimes we don’t eve realized when those little lies slip out. Even if we do not want people to be hurt we still need to be truthful. That is showing our love for them and not hiding the truth.
